As I was getting ready for my two sisters to visit I was reading
The Inspired Room and Melissa's Fall Nesting Idea #3 (click here to see it). She suggested making the entrance into your house from your garage as welcoming as your front door, since most of us use that entrance most of the time anyway. It is nice to decorate an essential just for yourself. So I searched around my house for my chair and some seasonal items and staged them by my door. I liked it! I was not going to paint my door since my sisters were coming the next day for our Sisters Week and I knew it would take at least 2 coats of paint and not have time to dry. I have lived with a white door leading from the garage into the house for 35 years, never thinking to paint it a color. Where was I? But, I loved the red door so much that I bought the paint Saturday morning. When you paint a metal door you need to used one coat of stuff called gripper first. So, after the gripper (a grey color) and 3 coats of red paint, it was done at 10pm Sat. night and was able to dry and set overnight. Here is the before (boring) and after.I am loving the welcoming feeling I get when I look at it.
I am glad I did it! What is your next project?

Wow, that is fabulous!! I'm so excited that you tried this yourself and it turned out so well!
Thanks for sharing it with me, I'm all inspired now to do my own garage door (after I buy the house, that is!) :-)
Great job!

Great minds think alike. I just painted my front door red.
